Hello! :o)
My name is Jael and here is a little bit about me:
Hometown: Brady/Gothenburg, Nebraska area, which means that I grew up on a farm north of Brady in a place called Wild Horse Valley and I graduated high school in 2003 from Gothenburg.
College Education: Bachelor of Science in Organizational Communications. I am looking into starting a Masters Degree this spring.
Hobbies/Interests: I am a farm girl, which means that I love being outdoors doing such things as walking/hiking and hunting. Listening to music (all kinds of course), traveling, and sleeping are some other things that I cannot get enough of. Most importantly I love spending time with my family and friends.
Why I love the University of Nebraska at Kearney: I love UNK for so many reasons but in short I am more than thankful for the wonderful opportunities I have had while attending UNK.
What I find fascinating is that I know a pretty good amount of people on campus, but at the same time I do not know every single student that attends UNK. The amazing people I have met here at UNK have impacted my life more than I could have ever imagined.
I had the wonderful opportunity to interact and meet with the aforementioned amazing people at UNK because of my involvement on campus. While on campus for four years, I was a Resident Advisor (RA) in both Mantor Hall and Centennial Towers West (CTW) for a total of three years, I was a member of the Loper Programming and Activities Council (LPAC) for three years, Summer Advising and Enrollment (SAE) staff for two year, Lambda Pi Eta-Communications Honorary for two years, Student Government and Chancellor’s Ambassador for a year. It was because I took advantage of these leadership opportunities that were available and got involved that I developed into the person that I am today.
The classroom has been a good place for me to excel as well. By taking the time to meet and get to know my professors and academic advisor, I had mentors to guide me through my academic experience. It was by making connections with these people, I had incredible references written for me when I applied for jobs because they knew me for me.
There was always something for me to do on campus whether it was an athletic event, fine arts performance, a guest speaker and so much more that I could keep busy if I wanted to. Lucky for me, these events were free thanks to my nifty UNK id card.
All in all, UNK was the right fit for me and that is what I will contribute my success to. UNK became my home away from home.
Why I love the Kearney community: Kearney, Nebraska is the perfect size of city for me…it is not too big nor is it too small. The best part about it is that it is constantly growing which means many more wonderful opportunities to try something new, whether that is a new store to shop at, a new restaurant to eat at, or even a new movie theatre to watch a movie. My favorite “place” in Kearney is the bike/walking trail, more specifically the stretch from the UNK campus to Cotton Mill park…nothing like being in the great outdoors to make one’s life complete. :o)
Other random fact about myself for 500: I have a very unique laugh…it is one of those things you have to hear it in order to believe it. Just for clarification it is a “honk” which should not be confused with a “snort”.
An Update: I recently was married (June 28, 2008), so I had the wonderful opportunity to change my last name from Johnson to Roschewski. :o)
Have a splendid day! :o)
