Join the Parents & Family Association

UNK understands the importance of a partnership with parents and families to support students. The Parents and Family Association is here to answer your questions, engage parent and family members with the University, and promote student success, wellness, and safety. All parents and families of UNK students are considered to be members of the association, but when you sign up, you’ll receive news and information to keep you better informed and connected.

Karen Prososki

"As a parent, I think UNK is doing a fantastic job!  They were faced with extraordinary issues that were new and scary to all.  I am amazed how they set things in motion and organized everything so quickly and helpful for parents and students alike. I am proud to be a UNK parent and know they will take care of my daughter/student!"

 Terri Lovitt HeadshotTerri Lovitt

My husband and I live in the country outside of Sumner, I appreciate my 30 minute commute to get ready for my day and also reflect on my work day at the end. I have worked at UNK in the Finance/Student Accounts office for 12 years as a Student Accounts Accounting Technician. We currently have two very involved students attending UNK.

Pamela Larbey HeadshotPamela Larbey

Pamela Larbey is a teacher of Computer Science and Business in a main stream school in England. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has always been committed to her career and knows the value that education plays in everyone’s life. Her experience has grown through her working career which includes, teaching in a small school in New Hampshire, working as a production assistant with Nebraska Educational Television and teaching in England. Teaching in England has been a great opportunity to understand how educational systems between countries are similar but very different.

Although Pamela grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, she has made England her second home. She has a family and, besides being a teacher, has spent time volunteering in the PTA both at primary school and secondary schools in England. She also volunteered as a Games Maker for the 2012 Olympics. Her role was one in the Press Tribune helping members of the world press at the Eaton Dorney Rowing Centre, one of the Olympic sites. Every day she spent time in the stands with the press which overlooked the finish line. Even today, she still can feel the crowd noise and excitement.

Nicki Petersen HeadshotNicki Peterson
Executive Board Member

My name is Nicki Petersen. I have two daughters, Abby (18 years old/freshman at UNK) and Hannah (14 years old/8thgrader). I wanted to be available to attend both of my daughter’s activities, so in 2017 my family and I decided to make a change and moved from Elkhorn, Ne to small town Elmwood, NE (population 668). I was a Certified Medical Coder and worked in multiple medical specialties for over 21 years (1996-2017). I currently substitute at Elmwood-Murdock Public Schools as a Para-Educator and Bus Driver; this allows me to have a flexible schedule. I never imagined doing either of these jobs, but truly love working with the students. I am the Treasurer for the Elmwood-Murdock Booster Club. I am currently working towards joining the Volunteer Elmwood Rescue Squad as an EMT. I enjoy being able to support my daughters in all aspects of their lives.
