About the Wildlife Biology Degree Program

On Campus

The Wildlife Biology degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney integrates a deep study of biology with an emphasis in applied vertebrate ecology. Student learning is directed toward understanding the distribution and abundance of species (ecology), with a special emphasis on mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians (terrestrial vertebrates).

Research experience is a core component of the Wildlife Biology program, and students have the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world issues when doing their own independent research their senior year.

As a Wildlife Biology major, you'll complete the educational requirements to eventually become a Certified Wildlife Biologist (five years of on-the-job experience is also required). Certification is an advantage to obtaining a job as a wildlife professional.

Phoebe Dunbar

"The diversity of coursework expanded my interests beyond what I had imagined. I didn’t know I would fall in love with avian ecology or plant taxonomy, but because I had classes in all areas of the wildlife field, my knowledge and passions were broadened, opening me up to so many more opportunities."
