About the General Chemistry Degree Program

On Campus

Chemistry students at the University of Nebraska at Kearney are provided with the best laboratory experience possible through access to state-of-the-art equipment and participation in active undergraduate research programs. This program is ideal for students planning careers in:

  • Chemical labs
  • Chemical sales
  • Organic synthesis
  • Environmental monitoring

The General Chemistry emphasis models a liberal arts degree and leaves room to explore an unrelated minor or second major.

Majors will learn modern laboratory techniques from expert faculty, receive hands-on training with instruments chemists use every day, and benefit from research opportunities, which may lead to presentations and publications.

I chose UNK because of the small but lively community. It excited me to see my brother interact regularly with his professors and assured me that I would not get lost in the numbers. I was intrigued by the many opportunities in the fields that I wanted to pursue including orchestra and chemistry research.

I gained so much from researching in Dr. Thomas’ lab. The skills and work ethic that I learned have helped me grow as a chemist while working in industry. It was amazing to be able to have hands on experience in the lab, which can be rare at larger universities.
