About the Engineering Foundations 2+2 Program

On Campus Icon On Campus

The University of Nebraska at Kearney Engineering Foundations 2+2 program is designed to closely reflect the first two years of an accredited engineering degree program—such as those offered at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

At UNK, you will build a strong academic foundation through essential coursework in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and other recommended general education classes before transferring to UNL or another ABET accredited engineering school.

UNK’s curriculum is developed in collaboration with the UNL College of Engineering to ensure a seamless transition. Through this pathway, you will typically spend two years in the Engineering Foundations program at UNK followed by two years in the College of Engineering at UNL, culminating in a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from UNL. After transferring, you may choose to specialize in a broad range of engineering disciplines, including civil, electrical, mechanical, chemical, and many others.

While the Engineering Foundations 2+2 program is designed for students intending to complete their engineering degree at UNL, you may also pursue transfer to any ABET accredited engineering program. Because degree requirements vary across institutions and engineering majors, you are encouraged to meet regularly with your academic advisor when planning your coursework. Students completing their degree at UNL will also work closely with UNL engineering advisors during their time at UNK to ensure a smooth and efficient transfer experience.
