nrhh - National Residence Hall Honorary

The National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) is the premiere honorary supported by the leading international organization advocating for the interests and welfare of residence hall students, while also providing opportunities for their personal growth and development. NRHH strives to provide recognition for individuals who have contributed to the advancement of college and university housing. It ensures the advancement of member chapters through resource sharing, programming, and leadership development opportunities to contribute and support the vision of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls, Incorporated.

NRHH is responsible for the “Of the Month” (OTM) awards that are written to recognize individuals or organizations that have done outstanding things on our campus every month. 

Membership to NRHH is by nomination and application only, but encompasses the best of the best on UNK’s campus!

Campus CAN/Residence Hall Association is the governing body over the Residence Halls at UNK. We plan and host events for residence hall students, work to resolve problems happening across campus and address concerns for residents.  All are welcome to our meetings:

The Campus CAN/RHA Executive Board is made up of strong student leaders who live in the residence halls. The executive board work to improve on-campus living experience for all residents.

Employment opportunities for students are plentiful within the Office of Residence Life.  In addition to offering numerous full-time and professional positions, the department is one of the largest employers of students at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  Student staff positions are varied. Working as a student staff member provides a great opportunity to develop work skills and gain experiences.  On-campus employment offers the convenience of working for employers who are flexible with students' class schedules, walking between work and class.

Desk Assistant

A Desk Assistant provides information, support and services to residents. These functions are varied and extensive.

  • Employment Period: Academic Year (August to May). Some opportunities for summer employment may be offered.
  • Wage: $9.00/hour

  • Date of notification: Ongoing. Desk Assistants are generally hired during the Spring semester for the following academic year. Openings are based on need.

Resident Assistant

An RA works to facilitate a positive and educational community with their residents. This includes a variety of tasks from keeping the floor posted on campus events to supporting students who are in crisis. The RA will often help solve conflicts on the floor and identify floor wide issues and address them. The position is very dynamic and changes from day to day.

The Resident Assistant application is available year-round.  We have unanticipated openings throughout the school year, thus once you meet minimum application standards, you are welcome to apply for the position. We encourage you to complete your application by 5:00 p.m. on February 1st to be considered for the RA position in the upcoming academic school year.

Summer Resident Assistant

A Summer Resident Assistant performs many of the same duties as an academic year Resident Assistant. Summer RAs will serve the residents living on-campus while taking academic classes during the summer terms.

  • Employment Period: May 3, 2019 to August 9, 2018
  • Compensation: Room in Nester North or South plus a stipend of approximately $2400

Summer Conference Assistant

A Conference Assistant works at the conference front desks and provides outstanding customer service to guests. Conference Assistants may also assist with departmental special projects. These functions are varied and extensive.

  • Employment Period: May 15, 2019 to August 9, 2019 (*possible extension for some CAs to August 22, 2019)
  • Compensation: Deluxe Double or equivalent housing plus hourly rate of $9.50/hour (approximately 19 hours/week)

  • Date of notification: Week of February 11, 2019
  • Hiring process: Application and interview (if selected).
  • Background Check: Due to this position having contact with young children, all staff selected as a Conference Assistant will undergo a background check prior to an official offer being made.
