Exploring the Great Outdoors.

Students at UNK are active, fun-loving, and always looking for new ways to have fun together both on and off campus. In Kearney, they take advantage of a wide range of outdoor activities and sporting events provided by our scenic location and community spirit.

Nothing feels more like home than an afternoon at the park. And with more than a dozen beautiful parks in and around Kearney, you will never be short on recreational venues, including: baseball diamonds, basketball courts, tennis courts, swimming pools, archery ranges, water slides, hiking and biking trails, lakes for fishing, swimming, and boating, soccer fields, and more. The most recent addition to Kearney’s park areas—the Yanney Heritage Park—also features a 12-acre lake, a four-season picnic pavilion, an amphitheater, and the Gottschalk Observation Tower.

Recreation centers.
One of the most popular getaways not just for UNK students, but the entire community of Kearney, is the Big Apple Fun Center, which offers bowling, mini-golf, go-kart racing, sand volleyball, and much more. For ski buffs, the Prairie Hills Golf and Ski Club provides the only ski hill in central Nebraska, and features lighted slopes, a snowmaking machine, complete ski rental and clubhouse, and a quarter-mile trail averaging a 120-foot vertical drop. And if you're in the mood for a concert or a sports event, or even some ice-skating, head to the Kearney Event Center.
