Internships

UNK Health Sciences places great value on high impact educational practices and offers robust opportunities for hands-on learning through internships. These practices offer diverse and rigorous opportunities to learn actively in real world scenarios and challenge students to apply and deepen their knowledge and understandings of the health-related career fields.

Through our internship program, students will be able to connect with various healthcare systems, providers and public health entities across Nebraska. Our formal internship program also satisfies the experiential learning requirement necessary for degrees at UNK through the class HSCI 475 Internship in Health Science.

Students are welcome to enroll in HSCI 475 during the Fall, Spring, Summer, or J-Term semester with 1-5 credits per semester. One credit hour is equivalent to 40 internship hours. Internship opportunities can be paid or unpaid depending on the site location.

If you are interested in enrolling in HSCI 475, please complete the HSCI Intent to Intern form and return it to Julie Calahan.

Along with many clinics and organizations, there are a variety of hospitals with a formal internship program allowing you to connect with a provider in your area. With this experience, you will also rotate through other areas of the hospital which provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare system. If you are interested in this program, please contact Julie.
