UNK First-time Freshman Scholarships

The Admitted Incoming Freshman Scholarship Application is the primary application for first-time freshmen UNK scholarships. It’s available in students’ MyBLUE from August 1 to March 1 and becomes accessible only after being admitted to UNK. By completing this single application, students are considered for most scholarships. There are several scholarships specific to students pursuing health careers so we encourage students to complete this application in order to be eligible.

Kearney Health Opportunities Program (KHOP)

The Kearney Health Opportunities Program (KHOP) is a cooperative program between the University of Nebraska at Kearney and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The purpose is to recruit high school students from rural Nebraska and prepare them to return and practice healthcare in rural Nebraska. To apply, you must have applied and been admitted to UNK. You will then be able to access the online application through Scholarship Manager on your MyBLUE. The KHOP application deadline is December 1.

Note: In order to be considered for KHOP,  a minimum ACT composite score of 23 is required AND students must complete the science portion of the ACT. Superscores are not considered.

Current Student Scholarship Application

The Current Student Scholarship Application is your all-inclusive application for UNK scholarships as a current UNK undergraduate student. Students fill out one application in Scholarship Manager that will then submit them to every UNK scholarship that they qualify for. The application opens December 15 and closes February 15 annually. Students can access the Current Student Scholarship Application through MyBLUE. All applicants will be notified of their results by the month of June. There are several scholarships specific to students pursuing health careers so we encourage students to complete this application process in order to be eligible.

Next Gen Scholarship

The Next Gen Health Science Scholarship was created to recognize and support students who are actively building the skills and experiences needed to become the next generation of healthcare professionals. Sponsored by UNK Health Sciences and our Hospital Partners, this scholarship encourages students to engage early in hands-on learning, campus involvement, and community service. Eligible freshmen pursuing a Health Science major or minor, Public Health minor, or a pre-professional program can earn a $2,000 scholarship to be applied toward their sophomore year tuition. Through participation in shadowing, club activities, and experiential learning opportunities, students gain valuable insight into the healthcare field while strengthening their academic foundation. This is a competitive award, designed to celebrate students who demonstrate initiative, engagement, and a clear commitment to a future in healthcare.
