R.Y.D.E. Transit is a public transportation bus system that provides rides to any location in Kearney Monday through Friday (6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m). Each one-way ride is a $3.00 charge.

Steps to Make R.Y.D.E. Transit Reservation
- You must call to schedule the ride 24 hours in advance, or at least the day before. Same day rides cannot be scheduled.
- State the following when you call:
- Good morning/afternoon. My name is _________ and I would like to schedule a ride. I will need to be picked up at (location of pick-up) at (time of pick-up). I would like to schedule this ride on (day and date).
- The first time you call, you will need to provide:
- First and last name
- Your campus address
- U.S. phone number (if you have one)
- Date of birth
- The caller can schedule a ride for multiple students. Please just state: There will be ___ (number of) riders.
- Be ready 15 minutes before the pick-up time and ready to wait 15 minutes after the pick-up time.
- The bus only waits for 5 minutes after arrival. If the student is not there, the bus will leave.
- Cash is accepted to pay the $3.00 at the time of pick-up; exact change is requested.
- Pick up and drop off location is the parking lot by the Student Union.
- To schedule your ride home:
- When you are ready (or getting close to being ready) to go, call the R.Y.D.E. Transit number to schedule your ride.
- State:
- Good morning/afternoon. My name is _____________ and I am ready to go. I am at (location of pick-up).
- Your pick-up place does not have to be the same as your drop-off. Example: the bus can drop you off at Hy-Vee but pick you up at the mall.
- You will need to pay $3.00 for the ride home.
Types of Identification
Through the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) located 321 Central Ave, Kearney, NE 68847 (open Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) international students at UNK can apply for:
- Nebraska Identification Card
- A legal ID you can carry instead of your passport.
- Nebraska Learner’s Permit
- For those learning to drive.
- Requires a written test.
- You must only drive with a licensed driver (19+ years old).
- Nebraska Driver’s License
- Allows you to drive without another licensed driver.
- If you already have a driver’s license from your home country, you can apply directly for a Nebraska license (without getting a Learner’s Permit).
- Requires a written test and driving test.
- If you have a Nebraska Learner’s Permit, only the driving test is required.
Required Documents
For OPT Holders
- Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
- If you do not have your card, present your I-797 approval notice or Change of Status confirmation.
For Currently Enrolled UNK Students (Non-OPT)
- I-94 (Download I-94)
- Principal Address Verification (Two of the following):
- UNK tuition statement
- Bank letter/statement
- Envelope, box, or postcard
- Correspondence
- Receipt or invoice (dated within the last 90 days)
- Letter from International Student Services
- Your address must match your MyBlue address.
Supporting Documents
- Most recent I-20 (F-1) or DS-2019 (J-1)
- Valid passport (must be valid for at least 6 months)
- Social Security Number (SSN) (if applicable)
- If you have an SSN card, you must present it.
