How Credits Transfer
If you’re planning to transfer to UNK, there are a few ways to determine if credits will transfer, and it’s important to know our transfer rules. Here’s a quick summary:
- Only official transcripts from accredited institutions are accepted for review at UNK.
- You can transfer up to 66 credit hours from a two-year junior or community college.
- From University of Nebraska (NU system) schools – all credits and grades will transfer. Use our Change of Campus Form.
- From non–NU system schools – a grade “C” or higher (not C-) is required to be eligible for transfer, but grades do not affect your UNK GPA.

Transferring from a Nebraska Community College?
- Courses Are Pre-Aligned – Community college courses are mapped and approved to transfer into your UNK degree program so you know exactly how credits apply and stay on track.
- Start with a Meta-Major – Choose a broad program area (e.g., Business, Health Sciences, Education) to take shared courses while deciding on a specific major, keeping credits on track.
- Transfer with Junior Standing (in most cases) – Completing the pathway (often an Associate Degree) typically transfers 60-66 credits. UNK transfer rules still apply.
