Discover student-led groups that bring people together for networking, friendship, and involvement. Located in the Student Engagement Office, these organizations host events, programs, and conversations that invite all students to participate, connect, and grow together.

The Student Engagement and Leadership Office supports and houses several student organizations and interest-based student organizations. These groups offer opportunities for all students—regardless of background—to build connections, expand networks, and engage in meaningful campus involvement.

The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership sponsors the following intercultural honor societies, which have been chartered to support student success through leadership development, community & civic opportunities, and social engagement, with the focus of centering academic excellence and scholarship.

Their intention is to support the identity development of their members, promote equal opportunities among all peoples, and emphasize the academic advancement of intercultural collegiate scholars.

Alpha Psi – Collegiate Latino Honor Society

alpa psi sealThe mission of Alpha Psi - Collegiate Latino Honor Society is to support student success by reinforcing academic intellect, creating cultural awareness, and performing service through community engagement.

Membership Information

Membership into the Alpha Psi - Collegiate Latino Honor Society is open to all students of sound character who meet the following membership criteria:

  • Must be an Undergraduate degree-seeking student enrolled full-time.
  • Must have achieved sophomore status (30 semester credits or more) when applying.
  • Must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
  • Must be in good academic standing and good judicial standing.
  • Transfer students will be considered on an individual basis by the advisor and Executive Board.

Induction

A formal induction ceremony is conducted every year during the fall semester. Members will be inducted to membership by invitation only. No eligible university student may be denied membership to any student affinity group based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, and/or political affiliation.

Upsilon Eta Upsilon - Honor Society for Black Excellence

Affinity groups are created for people to connect based on shared identities, ideologies, or interests. Group membership is open to every student on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus. No eligible university student may be denied membership to any student affinity group based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, and/or political affiliation.

If you would like to join any of the groups that SEL sponsors, feel free to attend any of their general meetings at the listed times. The SEL Office is located on the first floor of the Nebraskan Student Union, behind Starbucks and near the ID Office.

HSA

Hispanic Student Association

Hispanic Student Association (HSA) is a student organization focused on celebrating and sharing Hispanic culture through community, events, and activities. The group creates opportunities for students to connect, learn more about traditions and heritage, and engage with others who have an interest in Hispanic culture.

Meetings are held in the Student Engagement and Leadership Office (NSU 142) every other Wednesday at 5:00 PM.


PRISM

PRISM

PRISM strives for education and awareness of the LGBTQIA+ community on and off campus. The organization creates space for conversation, connections, and support while encouraging personal growth and campus involvement.

Meetings are held in the Student Union, Room 312 every Thursday.

Women Are Problematic

Women Are Problematic is a student organization that focuses on creating space for conversation, awareness, and support around women’s experiences and issues. The group encourages discussion, connection, and personal growth among members while highlighting important topics that impact women.

Meetings are held in Calvin T. Ryan Library, Room 109 at 6:00 PM every Tuesday.

Black Student Union (BSU) is a student organization focused on building community and celebrating Black culture through events, discussions, and activities. The group encourages connection, shared experiences, and opportunities for personal growth, while also helping members develop leadership experience.

African Student Union (ASU) is a student organization focused on promoting interaction among students of African origin, as well as those interested in African affairs.
