Academic Probation

At UNK, students on academic probation have access to resources, guidance, and personalized support to help them strengthen their academic progress and return to good academic standing.

Please note: The information on this page applies to undergraduate students. Graduate students may have different academic standing requirements. See the Graduate Catalog for more information.

What is Academic Probation?

Academic probation is an academic standing assigned to students whose cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0 at the end of a Fall or Spring semester. It lets students know that additional support and new strategies may be helpful as they adjust to meet their academic goals.

Academic probation serves as an opportunity to reflect on your experience, identify challenges, and take steps toward future success.

More information about academic standing and academic probation can be found in the Undergraduate Catalog.
