UNK Student Talent Development Program

Purpose

The Student Talent Development Program is funded through a portion of the Student Event Ticket (SET) fee. The program supports opportunities that foster student leadership, academic excellence, and other exceptional talents by providing funding for activities that develop and showcase student achievement.

Funding is available only for students; faculty and staff expenses are not eligible. Awards are made to highly meritorious proposals that directly support student talent development. Final approval of all awards rests with the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Application Process

Applications should be submitted to the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Warner Hall, Room 103.

Applications must include:

  • A completed Student Talent Development Application.
  • Department Chair and Dean approvals.
  • For group applications, one application may be submitted with a list of participating students. If funding will be paid directly to individual students, each student must provide their preferred mailing address and NUID.

Applications are reviewed monthly. Applicants should allow at least 30 days for processing.

Applicants will be notified of funding decisions by the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Reimbursement Process

Following notification of an award, students should work with their advisor or department administrative assistant to coordinate registrations, travel arrangements, prepayments, and reimbursements.

The University may make payments directly to vendors for eligible expenses such as registration and airfare. Original invoices must be provided before payment can be processed.

If a student receives reimbursement directly, payment may be considered taxable income under IRS regulations. Students who wish to avoid taxable reimbursement should submit receipts for eligible expenses whenever possible. A permanent address is required for payments made directly to students.

For individual awards, the student's advisor or department representative must verify participation before payment is processed.

For group awards, the advisor or department representative must verify the final list of participating students before reimbursement is issued.
