Scott Benson serves as interim vice chancellor for business and finance at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he also continues in his role as director of human resources.
A strategic leader with more than 15 years of service to UNK, Benson oversees key operational areas including Budget, Finance, Facilities Management and Planning, Human Resources, Strategic Partnerships and Operations, and the Plambeck Early Childhood Education Center. He also manages university contracts with Dining Services and the Loper Spirit Shop.
Since joining UNK in 2009, Benson has held leadership roles across multiple departments, including procurement, business services, accounts payable and residence life. He brings a broad institutional knowledge and a deep commitment to employee engagement, organizational planning and inclusive leadership.
A first-generation college graduate, he earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from South Dakota State University and an MBA with an emphasis in human resources from UNK. He launched the Loper Employee Professional Development series, a campuswide initiative promoting professional growth, and is trained in conflict mediation, Title IX investigation and emergency management.
Active in the community, Benson serves as a commissioner for the Kearney Housing Agency and sits on the Kearney Public Schools Foundation board. He and his wife are proud parents of three, and he approaches leadership with integrity, humility and a commitment to continuous improvement.
