The mission statement of the UNK school librarian endorsement program is predicated on the philosophy and purpose of the national guidelines for school library media programs of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL): “to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.” Successful candidates provide intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats to carry out that mission. After completing the librarian curriculum, school librarians can also provide instruction to foster competence in student-centered learning and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and ethically using information and ideas.

"I always want to keep going with my profession and learn more so I can apply it with the kids that I'm teaching right now. A lot of the stuff that I'm doing with Curriculum & Instruction, I use it in the classroom with my kids, learn as I go, just as they are learning. So it's a lot of just using my information and bringing it back to my kids and using that as I go."
"The professors at UNK, they're just so personable and they work hard to help us with anything we need, any questions. I feel like the professors here really try to get to know you, even though online classes. They'll post videos, they want you to post videos, sometimes they do Zoom, so it feels better than other online classes where you don't even know what your professor looks like or sounds like."

"The classes at UNK are great. They're pretty flexible, which is great because I am a full-time teacher, so allowing me to be able to take the classes on my own time at my own pace has been great. The content that each class has covered has also been very effective. There's a lot of classes where I've had to do research and apply the research in my classroom, so having the ability to look up things that other teachers have been doing and put it into practice has been great for not just lesson planning but classroom management and other materials."
