Youth Female Athletic Development

This summer program is designed specifically for FEMALE elementary and middle school aged athletes looking to develop healthy lifestyle habits and to gain a competitive edge. This program is led by female UNK athletes who have a strong background in both nutrition and strength and conditioning at the collegiate level.

Focus in this class will be to improve strength, power, mobility, conditioning, endurance, balance, jumping and landing. Speed training is also incorporated into this program to improve overall speed, agility, cutting ability, and change of direction (NOTE: no additional need for athletes to register separately for the Speed School training program). Athlete to coach ratio will remain low to ensure proper technique is practiced.

Female athletes who participate in sports with quick stops, cutting and lateral movements and landing are 3.5 times more likely to suffer a knee injury (ACL tear).  ACL prevention will be of high focus within this program. To reduce the risk of ACL injury it is important to improve strength, power, mobility, conditioning, balance, agility, jumping and landing, and cutting and changing direction. Unfortunately, less than 20% of coaches have implemented ACL Injury Prevention Programs on sports teams.
