Application to the Honors Program

The Honors Program has three application tracks that allow us to create a diverse, academically gifted, and talented freshman class each year.  Applicants will be reviewed through the track that best fits their situation.  There is one application form, so applicants do not need to choose their review track.

Holistic Review & Automatic Admission

To be considered for admittance to the Honors Program, all high school seniors must apply by February 10 using the online form below.

  • High school seniors with a grade point average of 3.85 or higher and an ACT of at least 30 will be automatically admitted to the Honors Program.
    • If you have already applied for the Omaha World Herald Scholarship, you are automatically admitted to the Honors Program.
  • High School seniors with a grade point average of 3.75 or higher and an ACT of at least 23 will be considered under a holistic review

The holistic review process will emphasize leadership, community engagement, perseverance, and talent. These items should be emphasized in the application. Approximately 100 total students will be accepted into the Honors Program. Notification of admittance to the Honors Program will occur by the end of February, at the latest.

Walk-on  & Transfer Applicants

Students who are not admitted through the above mechanisms can apply to the Honors Program during their freshman year at UNK. They will need to establish a UNK grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and get a letter of recommendation from a UNK faculty member.  Interested students should contact the Honors Office in October of their freshman year.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 30 of Freshman year
