Any compensation for participation should be clearly stated in this section of the consent form.
Any type of compensation provided subjects for participating in the research (for example, cash payments, tee shirts, eligibility for a prize drawing) must be stated in the consent form. This portion of the consent form also should explain any conditions associated with the compensation (such as partial payment or no payment for early termination as well as bonuses for completing the research).
The nature, amount, and method of payment of financial or other compensation must not constitute undue inducement of the subject to participate. When establishing the amount/type of compensation, the researcher should consider the background and socio-economic status of the subject population. Compensation for children involved in research is generally discouraged.
If compensation will be in the form of academic credit to be awarded for research participation, the amount and type of credit should be clearly stated as well as any conditions that must be fulfilled for the credit to be awarded.
