The consent form should provide subjects with an explanation of any options for research participation that may be advantageous to them.
This section of the consent form explains the alternatives available if a subject chooses not to participate in the research. For example, if the subjects are students who will receive academic credit, the consent form must describe the alternatives available to earn equivalent academic credit.
At minimum, the alternative to participation in a study is to choose not to participate.
