The Department of English at the University of Nebraska Kearney confers a Master of Arts degree through its on-campus and online graduate programs.

Our online program features a Writing emphasis and is designed for students interested in the advanced study of composition and genre. This program is particularly tailored to high school teachers seeking professional or personal development. Although this program does not grant certification to teach English, many students utilize their skills to improve their own writing or instructional strategies in existing teaching career paths.

Our on-campus program offers two areas of specialization: literature/literary analysis and creative writing. Students completing this MA will have a deepened knowledge and appreciation of world, British, and American literatures (including multicultural literatures).

Prerequisites: Bachelor’s degree with at least 18 hours of English
