Chairs,
Most faculty have heard about the proposed college restructure plan. They might have some preconceptions about the process or even regard it as finished. I know that everyone will likely need some time to consider such a significant change, but I also want substantive feedback. Towards that end, I’d like to provide some suggested talking points as you begin your discussions.
- From the drafts circulated, which proposed college best aligns with the mission and vision that your faculty have for your students and department? Are there multiple possibilities? What advantages and disadvantages do your faculty see with each option?
- If you don’t seem to fit anywhere, what are we missing? How can we improve vision and mission statements to include you? Where shall we put the additional information that you need?
- Are there multiple facets of your department or programs that would align well with other departments or groups of students on campus? Are there specific departments that would also fit well into the same college that your faculty would envision having better collaborations or synergies with? Would meeting with representatives of that department help in the planning discussion?
- Are there any non-academic advantages or disadvantages that you would envision? What collaborations might be enhanced in outreach or fundraising by being more closely connected to other departments?
