Rights of Research Subjects
Individuals considering whether or not to participate in research have rights, and they are entitled to know about them.

Rights of Research Subjects

As a research subject at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, you have the right to:

…be fully informed about the research before you are asked to decide whether or not to participate. This means that all information which a research subject would reasonably need in order to make an informed decision will be provided to you. The information will be explained to you in a manner designed to ensure that you have an adequate understanding of the subject matter.

…make your decision whether or not to participate in research without coercion, undue influence, or duress.

…decide not to participate in this research or withdraw from participation at any time without adversely affecting your relationship with the investigator(s) and the University of Nebraska.

…participate in research where your safety and welfare will always come first. The investigator(s) will display the highest possible degree of skill and care throughout this research. Any anticipated potential risks or discomforts will be minimized whenever possible.

…be treated with dignity and respect at all times.

…privacy and confidentiality. The investigator(s) will safeguard the confidentiality of research data to prevent the disclosure of your identity to non-authorized persons.

…ask questions about the research at any time before, during, and after participation in this research. Every effort will be made to answer your questions honestly and to your complete satisfaction.

…maintain all your rights and privileges as a citizen. No waiving of any legal rights is implied or intended by your participation in research.
