There is a widely recognized, substantial and growing demand for experts in the evolving field of cyber operations. The Cyber Security Operations (CSO) program trains students to be come CSO experts in order to protect individual rights, privacy, data, and last but not least national security.
The curriculum follow the NSA's Cyber Operations National Center of Academic Excellence guidelines. It is partially an outgrowth of CSIT and INT students working together to win the 2015 Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) for the North Center region, and competing at the 2015 CCDC national competition.

Cyber Security Operation (CSO) as a field is the study of "the set of controls and processes both technical and policy intended to protect and defend information and information systems by ensuring their confidentiality, integrity, and availability, and by providing for authentication and non-repudiation."
The courses are offered through the Computer Science Major, with an Information Networking & Telecommunication minor, and uses courses from the Information Technology program. Current students have the option to change to the CSO program.
CAE Tech Talk: Dr. Miller's presentation on Network Investigative Techniques, January 25, 2018 at 12:10 PM CT. The presentation covers the technique used to investigate cyber-criminal activities. These techniques have been used to unmask users of TOR whom are downloading illegal content from the TOR network. This talk will discuss such techniques, discuss ethical and legal issues and describe a methodology to test and verify such techniques. The talk is aimed at all skill levels.
