Cost and Insurance

Covered services

Five medical visits with a family medicine provider are covered by student fees each academic year. Patients are financially responsible for charges not covered by the student fees.

Student health insurance

The University of Nebraska has partnered with United Health Care Student Resources (UHCSR) to provide a student insurance plan for graduate assistants, international students and athletes. Learn more about Student health insurance coverage.

Private insurance

Check with your insurance company to confirm whether Nebraska Medicine is in network with your plan. View the complete list of insurance companies.

If you have questions about whether a specific charge is covered, contact your insurance company directly using their toll-free number located on your insurance card.

Bring your insurance card to every appointment. A photo or copy of the front and back of the policyholder’s card is also accepted.

What if I don’t have insurance?

Health insurance is not required to receive care at the Student Health Center at UNK. Students who choose not to submit to insurance, or do not have insurance, can receive a self-pay discount.

Financial assistance is available through Nebraska Medicine. If you are interested in applying, we recommend doing so at least 30 days before using health center services, as the process takes time to complete. Only students, not parents, can complete the financial assistance process.
