Understanding Courses not Counting

If you notice a course that has a red exclamation point next to it in your audit, this means you have taken the course, but it's not counting for that requirement.

The course could not be counting for the following reasons:

  • The course has no units/credits/points or no grade awarded
  • The course was failed, withdrawn, incomplete, or otherwise doesn't meet the minimum grade requirement
  • The requirement has already been satisfied from a different course, or courses.
  • The course exceeded duplication guidelines

Courses that are not being counted towards a requirement, may still count towards your institutional requirements. Ex 120 overall hours needed, 40 upper division hours needed. This is often the case with courses that have been over duplicated.

The next thing to check is if the course meets all of the constraints (rules) of the requirement you expected it to satisfy.

Constraints

When viewing a program requirement there will be a box labeled “constraints” listed next to each requirement. Constraints refer to the rules associated with each requirement such as fulfill all, fulfill any of the following, credits required, minimum GPA, minimum grade requirements, etc. By clicking any of the constraints boxes you will be able to see which ones are listed for that section of requirements.

Constraints

When there are multiple course options to fulfill a requirement the course options will be listed in a constraint. Constraints

Grade Requirements

Some programs require that courses need to be completed with a specific grade. For example the BS Criminal Justice Comprehensive program, a grade of "C-" or above is required for all courses in this major. The constraints if a specific grade requirements exist in a program, it will be listed as a constraint. Similarity some programs have a specific GPA requirement, which is also captured in the constraint.Degree audit section for “Criminal Justice BS Major Requirements” showing a highlighted requirement: minimum grade of C-.
