Academic Alerts

An academic alert is an early support tool designed to help students stay on track academically. It allows instructors, advisors, and support staff to identify when a student may be facing challenges and respond early with encouragement, guidance, and resources. The goal of an academic alert is to connect students with the support they need to strengthen their academic progress and succeed.

Responsibility

AACD works collaboratively with students, instructors, and advisors to provide timely outreach and connect students to campus resources. This coordinated approach ensures students receive consistent support, clear communication, and guidance as they navigate academic challenges.

Academic Alert Warning Signs

Academic alerts are used when a student may benefit from additional support or outreach. Common indicators include:

  • Low or failing early-term grade(s)
  • Frequent absences or tardiness
  • Missing or late assignments
  • Limited communication with course instructors and/or their academic advisors
  • A failing course grade
  • Being on academic probation and showing signs of ongoing academic difficulty (e.g., attendance concerns, missing coursework)
  • Instructor or staff concerns about a student’s academic progress

Recognizing these signs early allows the university to offer timely support and help students make meaningful progress toward their goals.
