UNK’s online History M.A. ranked a top school for online students

The University of Nebraska at Kearney has been recognized as one of the best schools for online master’s in history for 2023 by OnlineMastersDegrees.org. Only six percent of regionally accredited postsecondary institutions earned a ranking position. UNK’s online History M.A. earned top honors for overall quality, affordability, and commitment to student success. 
 
UNK’s online History M.A. offers a wide variety of rigorous courses at an affordable cost with faculty who truly care and are readily available for their students.  
 
“We work hard to create a sense of belonging for our students,” Amber Alexander, Online Program Coordinator for History, said. “Each student’s personal interests are considered when planning their program of study. Students are encouraged and supported in achieving their goals throughout and beyond the degree program.” 
 
UNK has more than 50 online programs available to both undergraduate and graduate students. A Public History M.A. has recently been added to that list, and UNK Graduate Studies has no plans to slow down that momentum for creating new online programs for their students. 
 
“Online programs such as the History M.A. open graduate program access to people who are unable to attend classes on campus,” Dr. Mark Ellis, Dean of Graduate Studies and Academic Outreach, said. “Our program provides quality, graduate education to fulltime teachers, active military personnel, stay home parents, and a host of others whose life and family situations will not allow them to tackle a traditional on campus graduate degree.” 

 

The online History M.A. is not only opening access for students around the nation, but the globe. 
 
“We have students from around the country – even internationally – as well as those from our own state,” Dr. Linda Van Ingen, Professor and Chair of History, said. “It creates a unique opportunity to share a love of history with people from all walks of life. Students learn from and engage with professors who have areas of expertise they may not have access to otherwise. The online M.A. program takes what we do best on campus and makes it available to students everywhere.”  
 
UNK’s online History M.A. program was created in 2010 and was one of the first in the nation. Since then, more than 400 students have become UNK online History M.A. alumni. These outstanding alumni are proof that the UNK online History M.A. is worthy of this title. 
 
“We have had so many graduates go on to complete doctoral degrees, land amazing positions, and be promoted within their current careers,” Alexander said. “The best thing I have seen is the confidence that students gain throughout the program. They graduate as completely different, more self-assured individuals who are ready to take on the next step in their career.”
