Core courses set a foundation in instructional technology, while this concentration in information technology will focus on database systems, security and administration, making you a valuable resource within educational and organizational settings.

Empower learners through technology

Instructing and training teachers, students or other professionals using technology can help them become more effective educators and learners. In this concentration, you will focus on analyzing, utilizing and managing applications of computer and other technologies and resources for classrooms, school districts or business organizations. Core courses equip you with foundational knowledge, while elective courses reinforce your expertise in the instructional technology field.

Manage technology for education or business

Gain the skills to advance in a technology management or educational training career in schools, districts or organizations. This concentration combines both the instructional technology and leadership development to help educators, students and business professionals maximize their use technology for effective teaching and learning.

Manage school library resources

This concentration prepares you to implement, utilize and manage technology services and resources in a school library, meeting the needs of teachers, students and your school or district. Core courses will equip you with a strong foundation in instructional technology, while concentration coursework develops your skills in library administration, information access, children’s and young adult literature, resource management and instruction in school libraries and library programs.

This concentration leads to a School Librarian Endorsement, which has received recognition from the American Library Association/American Association of School Librarians (ALA/AASL) and the Council on the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Prerequisites: Bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate

The mission statement of the UNK school librarian endorsement program is predicated on the philosophy and purpose of the national guidelines for school library media programs of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL): “to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.” Successful candidates provide intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats to carry out that mission.  After completing the librarian curriculum, school librarians can also provide instruction to foster competence in student-centered learning and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and ethically using information and ideas.
