Early Childhood Inclusive Program Practicum Requirements
Early Childhood Inclusive (ECI) program college students interact with young children and their families across multiple age ranges, early and often during their college career. To ensure the safety of young children and meet state and federal requirements, ECI college students are required to be cleared through three background checks.
- OneSource National Background Check: This check will be initiated for completion by UNK at your first advising session or TE 100. If college students transfer in TE 100, they should visit with their advisor to get access to the necessary link to complete the background check. This check is valid for up to 5 years but must be completed a second time, right before student teaching.
- Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Central Registry Check: This check is completed once a year during your college experience at UNK, typically in the Fall semester. The check will be initiated by UNK with the necessary link emailed to you.
- Child Care Fingerprint History Check: This check is completed once every five years. Fingerprint checks for other purposes such as driving a bus, providing respite care, and many others are not valid for replacing this check. The check will be initiated by UNK with necessary links emailed to you.
Important Notice
College students are required and responsible for keeping valid electronic and/or hard copies of all three of these checks. If a college student is unable to produce a copy of each check, they will not be permitted to enroll in applicable courses and will not be approved for practicum experiences required for degree/certification completion. UNK will not keep or provide copies and is not responsible for storing these for college students.
