Internships

Students majoring and minoring in International Studies frequently seek internships in a wide variety of organizations--governmental, non-governmental, educational, professional, and business-oriented. They may take place in the United States or abroad and students may earn up to 6 hours of UNK credit for them. Internships are normally student initiated and require approval of the Program Director. As a program, we support our students' desire to enhance their skills and future marketability. This page provides an incomplete listing of some internships that may be of interest to International Studies students. We ask students to inform us of other sites that we should add to this list.

INTERN ABROAD HQ

nature

Intern Abroad HQ currently offers both short-term and low-cost internship programs in Costa Rica, Peru (Cusco), and Guatemala. Internship opportunities are available in Healthcare (Medical, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Psychology), Microfinance, NGO Support, Tourism & Hospitality, Youth Development & Education, Environment & Wildlife Conservation (and more). Entry-level options are available from just a minimum duration of two weeks.

Our internship programs additionally include a guided reflection course, based on an experiential learning model. Weekly reflection modules are provided and each introduces a new topic, presents learning objectives, and provides specific prompts to inspire the journaling process, along with personal and professional development.

The purpose of this approach is to address articulation challenges and build personally relevant connections, so that learning is understood and integrated as it relates back to an intern’s own life, goals, and perspectives. (It's widely reported that students who are more engaged with their learning experiences abroad enjoy more positive employment and personal well-being outcomes).
