Undergraduate Research Journal

Housed in UNK English, the UNK Undergraduate Research Journal publishes outstanding examples of student scholarly writing. Any paper written by a current UNK undergraduate student is eligible for consideration. All papers will be peer-reviewed by a UNK faculty member in the field appropriate to the submission, as well as a student enrolled in an upper-division English class. This class also edits and produces the journal.

Submissions for the next issue will be due to the journal site on Open Spaces no later than January 30th, 2027. Email Amanda Sladek at sladekam@unk.edu with questions.

Criteria are as follows:

Submissions should be approximately 2000-4000 words. Keep in mind the selection is based on quality, not quantity. Longer papers are not disqualified.

Students should use Arial font at 11pt. Please adhere to the formatting guidelines and template for the journal.

Any good scholarly writing, past or present, is eligible for submission as long as the student has been a UNK undergraduate in the last two years. For example, a current UNK graduate student may submit work done as a UNK undergraduate. The paper may be co-authored by other students and faculty. The undergraduate submitting the work must be lead author and is responsible for obtaining consent to submit from all authors.

Submissions are requested from all disciplines and may be written in a format appropriate for that discipline.

Please omit author and mentor names, as well as any other identifying information, from initial submission. Manuscripts that contain identifying information will be returned to the authors for revision. This may delay the review process.
