Alex Straatmann

Biography

Alex Straatmann is a Kearney, Nebraska native and a graduate of Kearney High School, the University of Nebraska at Kearney (B.S., ’00), and Texas Tech School of Law (J.D., ’03). He is a licensed attorney and serves as the Chief Compliance Officer at UNK and as an adjunct professor in the Department of Political Science.

As the Chief Compliance Officer, he oversees the university’s Title IX, Title VI, ADA, FMLA, and ethics programs. He also coordinates the university’s hotline reports and investigations through EthicsPoint. He works with university partners and stakeholders to ensure the university’s compliance with federal and state law and university policies.

In 2024, he was elected to the Kearney City Council. Previously, he was elected to and served two terms on the Kearney Public Schools Board of Education.

He is also a member of the United States Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General Corps, and serves as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He and his wife, Dr. Kim Andresen (also a UNK graduate) met at band camp as sophomores in college. They live in Kearney with their three rescue dogs and two rescue cats.
