Welcome to the University of Nebraska Kearney. The University of Nebraska Kearney Police Department’s #1 goal is the safety of all students, faculty, staff and visitors to our campus. The dedicated professionals of the UNK Police Department work hard to achieve that goal and to make this University the safest in the country. The University of Nebraska Kearney Police Officers have completed the State of Nebraska Police Officers Standards and Training and are commissioned by the Nebraska State Patrol.
Members of this department are highly trained and experienced officers who continue to receive additional training in areas such as investigations, domestic violence, crime prevention and other areas in order to have the ability to handle and control any event that may arise. We want you to feel secure and safe when on our campus and a well-trained and prepared Police Department helps to achieve that goal.
Besides enforcing all local, state and federal laws and providing for your safety, we also provide other services to the UNK community. We will provide escorts from class late at night and provide FREE Basic Self Defense classes throughout the year. In short, we stand ready to assist you in any way possible to assure your safety and to help you achieve your goal of a college education, so please do not hesitate to call on us at any time.
You will find some additional information on this page concerning safety, crime prevention tips, and steps you may employ to reduce the possibility of criminal activity. We encourage you to take a few minutes to review this information.
Once again, all of the members of the University of Nebraska Kearney Police Department extend a heartfelt welcome to you.
Chief James (Jim) F. Davis
Director of Police and Parking Services
As a parent, there is no single more important question to ask during the college search process than, “Will my child be safe?” When you come to visit us, talk to UNK students or their parents and they’ll most likely tell you the reason they chose to come here, above all, is because it felt like a safe, community-centered environment they could call “home”.
The Department of Police and Parking Services at UNK is a highly effective and efficient department, largely because of the close interaction and open lines of communication it has with the University as a whole. The Department offers a full range of police, parking, and safety resources around the clock to ensure a safe environment for the entire UNK campus community.
The Police division of the Department of Police and Parking Services consists of full and part-time officers who conduct area patrols, enforce federal, state, and local law, as well as UNK policies and coordinate crime prevention programs
