GOTCHA!

Starting fall semester, 2023, the UNK Police Department (UNKPD) will initiate the ‘GOTCHA!’ Program, a crime prevention program to bring awareness to and reduce petty theft on campus.

While patrolling campus, the officer(s) on duty will be keeping an eye out for unattended valuables, unlocked bicycles, and open, unoccupied dorms or offices. Because these situations leave you vulnerable to falling victim to petty theft, the officer(s) will leave a GOTCHA! business card with your belongings. These business cards will serve as a hint that you could have become a victim of theft, but fortunately an officer located your unattended valuables before a thief did. They will also serve as a gentle reminder to lock up your valuables and to do your part to reduce campus crime. For more questions regarding the ‘GOTCHA!’ Program, contact (308) 865-8911 or stop in at the UNK Police Department at 2501 19th Ave, Kearney, NE 68849.

Property Registration

Register your electronic devices and bikes here

The UNK Police Department offers free property registration for your electronic devices and bicycles. Registering these items with us will help ease and quicken the reporting process in the event your item(s) gets lost or stolen. Every electronic device and bicycle have a serial number, which if stolen, can be entered into a nationwide database to see if it has been sold or pawned. Keeping a log of this information can increase chances of recovery and of the thief being held responsible.

By filling out this document, you are giving UNKPD your serial numbers for safekeeping. We will keep this information for the entire school year, but next fall, you will need to re-register your items. It is a great idea to register your high dollar electronic devices such as laptops, iPads, Airpods, or televisions, and your bicycle if you have one on campus. If you aren’t sure where to locate a serial/IMEI number, view examples of common number locations.

Please note: if you have multiple items to register, please submit the form once for each item.
