Medical Insurance

All F-1 and J-1 eligible international students who are enrolled and actively engaged in a program of study approved by the appropriate UNK Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) and are temporarily outside their home country are required to purchase the UNK Student Health Insurance Plan (Blue Cross Blue Shield) in order to meet these requirements. UNK international students are automatically enrolled for student-only coverage each semester they register for classes. The price for this coverage will then be added to the tuition bill for the semester.

F-1 and J-1 Students Waiver Eligibility:
Only students who fit into one of the following categories are eligible for an insurance waiver:

  • Student sponsored by his or her government with a financial guarantee on file with the university
  • Student who is a member of NCN
  • Student receiving health insurance benefits provided by a U.S. employer of his or her parent, spouse or domestic partner.
  • If students purchase the International Student Insurance (ISI) (a “select” or “elite” option), they can apply for an insurance waiver (https://www.internationalstudentinsurance.com/This waiver is for J1 students only.
