Blue Gold Welcome

Blue Gold Welcome is an action-packed weekend designed to welcome first-year students to UNK. Over these three days, you will meet staff and students in your residence hall, connect with faculty and staff from all over the university, get to know other first-year students, meet many of the student leaders and student organizations on campus, and get valuable information to help you thrive at UNK.  And you might even take away some great new Loper Swag!

Noon – 3:30 pm: Academic Open Houses and Parent/Family Meetings
  • Follow a GooseChase scavenger hunt to explore campus, find your classes, meet faculty and staff, and discover some of the offices to help you succeed academically.
  • Parents and Families will have some meetings just for them during this time to get all your questions answered!
3:30 pm – 4 pm: Parade of Lopers
  • Take your place in this tradition! Students will parade through the heart of campus while parents/families, faculty, staff, and upper-class students cheer them on. Feel the Loper Spirit as UNK comes out to let the new students know they belong!
4 pm- 5 pm: Convocation
  • We officially welcome students and their families to UNK each year at Convocation. Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Deans, and Student Leaders will welcome you to the campus community in this ceremonial formal beginning of your journey as a UNK student. And there might be a few surprises in the mix!
5 pm – 8 pm: Blue Gold Showcase and Chancellor’s Picnic
  • Explore what UNK and Kearney have to offer by visiting with over 100 student groups, campus organizations, and community businesses. But don’t miss out on Chancellor’s Picnic, your chance to get a great meal and visit with others in the UNK community.
9 pm to ??: Dance Party with Live Music Sponsored by ODI
  • What better way to wrap up your first day than a Dance Party? Join ODI by the fountain for a memorable end to the day.
9:30 am to 11:30 am and 1 pm to 6:30 pm: Campus Connections
  • Choose from a variety of programs throughout the day to find what you need to be supported and engaged on campus. Student organizations, campus departments, and even some special guests will offer sessions. Get your questions answered while exploring what UNK has to offer.
7:30 pm to 9 pm: PlayFair
  • Unwind with games and activities led by an expert in helping students connect. And make sure you stay until the end when we will find out who the All-Campus Rock–Paper–Scissors Champion is this year!
1 pm to 6 pm: Rec Round Campus
  • Have some fun with sports and activities all over campus. Play yard games, try out the rock wall, yell out bingo, or relax with a little art while painting a rock. Recharge and be ready to have the best first day of classes!
