Tyler Ellyson is the managing editor for UNK Communications and Marketing, where he leads daily operations of the newsroom and coordinates comprehensive coverage for university events.
Since joining UNK in 2018 as a writing specialist and advancing to managing editor in 2022, Ellyson has played a key role in producing and distributing news releases, photography and video content that bolster the university’s media visibility. A veteran journalist, he is instrumental in enhancing UNK’s media outreach by pitching stories, handling media inquiries and supporting crisis communication efforts. Additionally, Ellyson manages the UNK News website and collaborates closely on social media and marketing strategies.
A native of Laurel, Nebraska, Ellyson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism from Wayne State College. His journalism career began at the Creston News Advertiser in southwest Iowa, where he served as a reporter and news editor from 2008-10. He then joined The Columbus Telegram, working as a reporter, photographer and managing editor from 2010-18.
Ellyson brings a wealth of newsroom experience to UNK, combining strong editorial oversight with strategic media engagement to enhance the university's public profile.
