Office of Sponsored Programs

The Office of Sponsored Programs is the university’s central office of grant administration. OSP is a partner to faculty and staff in their pursuit of external funding for research, creative activities, pedagogy, and service. Our mission is to make the process of applying for funds (both internal and external) as stress-free as possible. Through consultations, workshops, and individualized searches, OSP helps the UNK community identify funding opportunities and craft competitive applications. We also take the administrative burden off of your shoulders by filling in application forms, drafting budgets, providing boiler plates, editing drafts, and ushering your project from conception to funding.

OSP welcomes the opportunity to serve you in your quest for funding, including the following areas

  • Draft budget and budget justifications with faculty.
  • Complete grant application forms.
  • Provide consultations for project development and proposal review.
  • Provide boiler plates for standard grant components such as multiple-PI leadership plans, facilities, biosketches, etc.
  • Provide examples of funded proposals.
  • Provide assistance in securing institutional approvals and signatures.
  • Package and mail proposals for faculty.
  • Conduct grant writing workshops for faculty & staff.
  • Serve as a liaison with external agencies.

Minimum Notice of Intent to Submit a Proposal Request

Proposal Timeline Guide

All external grant submissions must be submitted by the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). Grants are made to the institution and not the individual and, therefore, it is imperative that all compliance checks are completed by UNK authorized personnel for submission. To maximize your support from the OSP, please notify the OSP well in advance of the sponsor deadline. We highly encourage early notifications within the 1-3 month range or even further in advance. OSP strongly advises following this Proposal Submission Timeline Guide. The OSP has established a Minimum Notice to Submit Deadline of 15 business days or less from proposal submission date. Proposals require a minimum of fifteen (15) business days to gather documentation from outside entities, review, and approve. This timeline allows a minimum of ten (10) business days to assist in preparing the internal business-related elements and five (5) business days for internal routing and approvals. We ask this to ensure that are putting forth a compliant proposal and that we can guarantee that the proposal gets in on time. You also must enter all documents for submission in the NuRamp OSP Module. The NuRamp Form assigned to the proposal must have the necessary internal approvals obtained (routing complete), no later than five (5) business days prior to the sponsor deadline. If you are contacting the OSP 15 business days or less before the submission deadline, you must fill out and submit the Minimum Notice of Intent to Submit a Proposal Request Form. c This request form must be completed and signed with approval or disapproval within 24 hours of notifying OSP, if the minimum notice of intent to submit requirements are being requested. OSP gives priority to proposals that notify OSP in a timely manner. If the request to be submitted with minimum notice is approved, the proposal will be given minimal review and reasonable efforts will be made to complete the review and submission process before the sponsor’s deadline. However, a successful submission cannot be guaranteed due to the high volume of proposals during major deadlines. OSP is not responsible for failed submissions of any proposals that did not meet the minimum requirements of the notice of intent to submit deadline. Additionally, there is no guarantee that UNK will be able to accept the terms and conditions of any award resulting from a late notice of intent to submit a proposal.
