How to get started:

To discuss the program before applying, please contact the MSE in STEM Education program chair at stemedms@unk.edu.

Apply to the MSE in STEM Education Program by submitting the online application. If you are an International Student, view information on international admissions.

  1. Within the application:
    • Program Description: select  STEM Education (MSE) entry followed by your desired option area (Biology, Mathematics, Physics/Physcial Science, Technology, Chemistry, or Integrated)
  2. Upload the following documents:
    • Teaching License Document: upload your current or most recent teaching certification or license.
    • Personal Statement: Upload a narrative in which you describe the following:
      • Your current teaching position.
      • How completing the UNK Science/Math Education M.S.Ed. Program will help you meet your educational and professional goals.
      • Your undergraduate science, math, and educational training and how it prepared you for our program.
      • If your current teaching certificate or license is from a state other than Nebraska, please briefly explain the certification/licensing requirements in your state.
    • Unofficial transcripts: You will need to have official transcripts sent from all past institutions (see below) but including unofficial transcripts in your online application will facilitate more timely review by the program committee.
  1. Arrange for official transcripts from all past institutions (except University of Nebraska sister institutions) to be sent to the UNK Graduate Admissions Office.
  2. Pay the application fee ($45).

Once your completed application has been submitted, please allow two-three weeks for the Program Committee to process your application.

  • Once you’ve received an acceptance of admission notification, you will also receive information about setting up University accounts, including information about registering for classes through UNK’s MyBLUE registration system.
