Biography
Dr. Mattingly is the Department Chair and Associate Professor of Music. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of early childhood and elementary music education. Dr. Mattingly holds a PhD in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma and a BM and MM in piano performance from the University of Tulsa. Her dissertation, “Katalin Forrai and the Development of the Kodály Concept in Early Childhood Music Education,” focuses on the work of Forrai, who was instrumental in developing the field of early childhood music education in Hungary and around the world.
In 2013, Dr. Mattingly was awarded a Fulbright Student Grant, an International Kodály Society Scholarship, and the OAKE Jenő Ádám Scholarship that allowed her to live in Kecskemét, Hungary for nine months where she studied and conducted research at the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. She continues to give research presentations at the international level, including the 2026 International Society of Music Education World Conference held in Montréal, Quebec, Canada; the 2019 International Kodály Society Symposium held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia; and the 2015 International Katalin Forrai Conference held at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary. She has also given research presentations at the national and regional levels, including the 2024 Midwest Kodály Music Educators Association Midwestern Division Conference in Omaha, Nebraska; the 2018 National Association for Music Education Conference in Atlanta, Georgia; and the 2016 Organization of American Kodály Educators National Conference held in Long Beach, California.
Her most recent publication, “The Collaborative Effort of Zoltan Kodály and his Students in the Development of the Kodály Concept,” was recently published in the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education.
Dr. Mattingly is a member of the Nebraska Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Plains States Kodály Organization, the Organization of American Kodály Educators, the International Kodály Society, and the International Society for Music Education.
