The Center for Entrepreneurship and Rural Development is not just for students – we also believe in supporting rural communities, too. Programming, workshops, and the Light It Up entrepreneurship awards are available to rural communities in Nebraska.
Light It Up Awards
The Light It Up Awards celebrate the vision, innovation, and hard work of entrepreneurs who are making a difference at UNK and throughout Greater Nebraska. Held annually in April, awards are presented in the following categories: Student Entrepreneur, Emerging Entrepreneur, Excellence in Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship Advocate, and Alumni Entrepreneur. Nominations open in February.
Workshops
CERD offers hands-on workshops and educational programming throughout the year to support students, small businesses, and rural communities.
Big Idea Buffalo County
Big Idea Buffalo County is an open competition for residents, entrepreneurs, and changemakers from across Buffalo County to pitch new business ideas and win funding to bring them to life. The creation of Big Idea Buffalo County opens up new possibilities, connections, and resources that meet the needs of innovators throughout the region.
Table of Perspectives
Inspired by Thomas Jefferson’s love of intimate, idea-driven gatherings, this business student and leader luncheon fosters meaningful conversations in a relaxed, welcoming setting. Table of Perspectives offers a unique opportunity to discuss the impact of traditional business, education, and economic practices on our lives and communities. Attendees enjoy a delicious meal while exchanging experiences, challenging assumptions, and discussing how business education can better serve individuals and communities.
