Message from the Dean

cbt dean Brooke R. EnvickAs I begin my second year as Dean of the College of Business and Technology, I am energized by where we are and even more excited about where we are going.

Last year, I shared a vision for Building Momentum by Celebrating, Aligning, and Envisioning. Over the past year, that momentum has become increasingly visible. We have grown, strengthened connections with industry and communities, expanded opportunities for students, and positioned the College around what Nebraska needs most, which is talented graduates prepared to contribute, lead, and create value.

Today, CBT serves more than 1,000 students across a distinctive portfolio of business and technology programs. Our enrollment growth signals something important: students see value in an education that connects the classroom to careers, employers, communities, and real-world opportunities.

That connection is at the heart of Grow the Good Life, our signature approach to recruiting, student engagement, experiential learning, and workforce development. Through partnerships with K-12 schools and employers, we are creating clearer pathways from education to meaningful careers in Nebraska and beyond.

We are also building on our distinctive strengths. The Loper Flight Academy represents an exciting new chapter for Aviation and the Nebraska Safety Center. Cyber Systems is gaining momentum in an increasingly important field, and our other business and technology programs and centers continue to add value to changing workforce needs across the state.

But numbers and initiatives tell only part of our story. The strength of CBT is its people, the faculty and staff who care deeply about students, industry partners and alumni who invest in our college, and students who bring energy and ambition to what we do.

As a third-generation professor and UNK graduate, I have always believed in the transformational power of education. After more than three decades in higher education, I believe in that more strongly than ever.

We have built momentum. Now our opportunity is to turn that momentum into even greater impact. We will continue to be innovative and responsive by adapting to the changing needs of our students, our partners, and Nebraska’s workforce needs while building on the strengths that have brought us this far.

There is much to celebrate, much to build upon, and much still ahead. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and excited about the possibilities before us.
