As I posted the picture taken by my graduate assistant, I decided it tells it all when you see the stack of papers in the background—chaos! That is why I appreciate Nietzsche’s quote: “One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star. As an UNK instructor, a highlight for me in my classes is watching the creation of dancing stars ;-)

Currently, I am an Associate Professor and past Chair of the Educational Administration Department. I have a Bachelor of Science, Masters of Arts, and an Education Specialist Degree from UNK and an Ed.D. from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.  I teach a variety of courses including Introduction to Educational Administration, The Principal as an Instructional Leader, The Principal, Supervision of Instruction and Curriculum Planning.

I have served on several committees on both the College and University level—College of Education Coordinating Council, Graduate Council, Assessment Committee, and Council of Chairs. have been a reviewer in the Pre-Internship Seminar: Mock Interviews, for the department of Counseling and School Psychology. Over the past few years I have participated in several Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) committees/task forces--the Principal Endorsement Ad Hoc Committee, Competencies in Technology Task Force, Curriculum Supervisor Endorsement Ad Hoc committee, and NSEA Ad Hoc Committee: NDE Essential Curriculum and NEA Great Public Schools for Every Child Project. Being part of Lake Mahoney IV; Commission of Education Retreat: Leading Schools to Success: How School Leaders Construct and Sustain High Performing School Cultures; (Two day planning session designed to provide input for the Commissioner of Education) was one of my most interesting committees. Another highlight of my service at the state level was to be invited to serve on the NDE Commissioner’s Blue Ribbon Panel for the selection of the 2011 Milken Educator.

Last year I served as President of NCSA Region IV, the NASA Executive Board and completed two years of serving on the Dean’s COE Ad Hoc Course Evaluation Committee. Currently, I am serving on the State Accreditation Committee, NDE Quality Assurance Review Committee, UNK Alumni Board, and the First Lady’s Outstanding Community Service Award, Judge.

The top priority in my life is my family. I have four grown children, 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. I have devoted endless hours to sitting on bleachers at athletic events, musical presentations, and attending all the current “tween” movies. I feel that I have first-hand knowledge of balancing family and professional obligations
