ADP Events

In partnership with the World Theatre, Kearney’s non-profit, volunteer-run cinema, UNK ADP hosts a fall-semester film series. Each title focuses on some democratic theme.

Election
November 12, 2019. ADP celebrates the 20th anniversary of Alexander Payne’s Election. Set (and filmed) in a suburban Omaha high school, this dark comedy explores politics, political ambition, and educational ethics (or is it morals?) through the lens of a student government election. Discussion panel to follow with Dr. Sam Umland (English), Dr. Diane Duffin (Political Science), Dr. Rebecca Nelson (Teacher Education), and Dr. Chandra Diaz (Teacher Education).

Divided We Fall
October 8,  2019. Divided We Fall, takes a critical look at the 2011 Wisconsin uprising, when state employees occupied the capitol in Madison to protest state budget cuts and threats to collective bargaining rights.

Constitution Day recognizes the date on which delegates to the Philadelphia Convention finalized and signed the US Constitution, September 17, 1787. This year, ADP hosted a pub-trivia style competition, quizzing participants on questions pulled from US citizenship tests. The top three teams took home prizes.

Our campus has received our report on student voting participation in the 2020 general election. UNK belongs to a consortium led by Tufts University that cross references state-provided voter turnout data against IPEDs data to create a profile of student voting behavior on each member campus. We are absolutely thrilled to report that 66.1% of UNK students voted in 2020, up from 51% in 2016. The following files may be used to view our UNK report.
