Biography
Darin Himmerich is one of the usual suspects now that he has been at UNK for 12 years. Since starting here, he has served as the technical director for 39 productions, designed scenery for 23 productions, and taught countless students. In addition to creative work at the University, Darin has designed scenery professionally for Nebraska Repertory Theatre (Mauritius, Unnecessary Farce), The Black Hills Playhouse (Inspecting Carol, All Shook Up), Crane River Theatre (Red, Tuesdays with Morrie), Cortland Repertory Theatre, Cortland, NY (La Cage Aux Folles, Saturday Night Fever) as well as the Lincoln and Omaha Playhouses. He acquired his construction style by attending the University of South Dakota and then building scenery in Los Angeles for seven years. Darin has been active with the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, from which he received a Certificate of Merit for Technical Direction when he made it rain on stage during The Night of the Iguana. His latest endeavor was starting the award-winning Theatre of the Mind student radio organization. It is now in its third season and can be heard on UNK’s campus radio station, KLPR 91.1. He is a member of The United States Institute for Theatre Technology. Darin became the Director of the Theatre Program nine years ago and is always working to bring live theatre into peoples’ lives.
