Nursing

“The ROTC Edge”

ROTC can help you get into nursing school. Up to eight UNK students who are contracted to serve full-time on Active Duty or part-time in the National Guard after graduation will receive GUARANTEED admittance to the nursing program if they meet minimum UNMC requirements.

Guaranteed admission is contingent upon the following requirements:

  • Maintain full-time student status at the University of Nebraska-Kearney
  • Maintain a minimum of 3.2 cumulative GPA
  • Maintain a minimum of 3.2 cumulative GPA in math and science courses
  • Follow the course projections you arranged with your UNK academic advisor
  • Meet a UNMC Student Services Coordinator once per semester
  • Complete a UNMC College of Nursing application for admission prior to the February 1 application deadline.

As an ROTC nursing student, you will be able to combine college electives in military science and invaluable nurse summer training experience with your regular nursing program. You will develop your professional skills while you learn meaningful things about yourself and what you can accomplish.

Upon completion of the program (and provided all prerequisites are met), you can receive a commission as an officer in the Army Nurse Corps, ready to take on the challenges of your profession. You will find that your Army ROTC experience has taken you a long way toward realizing your professional goals.
