Application to the Honors Program

The Honors Program has three application tracks that allow us to create a diverse, academically gifted, and talented freshman class each year.  Applicants will be reviewed through the track that best fits their situation.  There is one application form, so applicants do not need to choose their review track.

Automatic Admission

High School seniors who have ACT scores of 30 or higher and a grade point average of at least 3.85 should apply by November 15.  From the pool of qualified applicants, UNK will select 40 students to participate in an interview process in the first week of December.  Admission notices and scholarship offers, including three Omaha World Herald/Kearney Hub scholarships, will be mailed before the end of the year.

Holistic Review

High School seniors with a grade point average of 3.75 or higher and an ACT of at least 23 should apply by February 10.  Review will emphasize leadership, community engagement, perseverance, and talent.  From the pool of qualified applicants, UNK will select 120 students to participate in an interview process in the last week of February.  Approximately 100 students will be accepted into the program, and they will be notified by the end of March.

Walk-on Applicants

Students who are not admitted through the above mechanisms can apply to the Honors Program during their freshman year at UNK. They will need to establish a UNK grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and get a letter of recommendation from a UNK faculty member.  Interested students should contact the Honors Office in October of their freshman year.
