Uncovering MONA Mysteries

Every piece of art holds an hidden truth. Join other art enthusiasts as you uncover the stories behind real artwork hanging in the galleries of the Museum of Nebraska Art. Get inspired by what you discover. Experiment with new materials and techniques to create your own unique artwork. With hands-on projects and thought-provoking discussions, you’ll experience art in a way that’s fun, interactive, and personal. By the end of the week, you’ll tell your own story through a curated exhibit of your work. Are you ready to uncover the mysteries of art and make your mark? (Note: This class is offered at MONA from 9:15 am-12:15 pm. You are responsible for drop-off and pick-up at this alternative camp location.)

Strategic Minds: Chess and Coding Camp

Sharpen your strategic chess abilities by delving into the basics of coding and simple algorithms. You will experiment with the Fisher Random Chess variation, which uses a random number generator code to shuffle chess pieces. This allows you to create a unique board setup for every game. Rumor has it that an Internationally-ranked Chess Master will also be attending class to share a few pointers! When you are not coding or playing the “Game of Kings,” you will conduct your own fun science experiments. Coding. Chess. Science. This class has it all!

Lights, Camera, Create

Zoom in on video production at our “Lights, Camera, Create” camp. You will learn how to operate cameras and capture engaging footage. Create stop-motion animation, explore the use of green screens, and experiment with editing techniques. By the end of the camp, you will have hands-on experience in video production and a new appreciation for visual storytelling!

Ready to level up your art skills? Discover all the tricks and tools that artists use to make their creative process easier and faster! From using technology to “cheat” with digital tools, to exploring carbon paper transfers and using the grid methodology, this class will give you the keys to unlock new ways to create art like a pro! Spend the week mastering these shortcuts while working in painting, drawing, ceramics, and sculpture! Get ready to hack your art game!

Gourmet Garden Chef

Join us and see just how easy it is to grow, cook, and even preserve your own food. Learn how to transform garden goodies into delicious dishes by preparing fresh-from-the-garden recipes. Get first-hand experience planting your own herbs, canning your own refrigerator pickles, making your own garden-herb ranch dressing, and much more. And of course, you will need to take time to taste test your edible creations. Bon appetite! (Note: This class is not recommended for students with food allergies.)
