UNK is committed to advancing its mission in a new environment dominated by a public health threat. The core values of our mission declare that Learning Matters, the Learning Environment Matters, People Matter, and Responsible Stewardship Matters. We keep these values in front of us as we adapt to a rapidly changing social and economic context during a pandemic.

UNK is open. We continue to deliver on our academic mission, and we have transitioned to remote learning to enable students to complete their coursework during the Spring Semester.  UNK has strong technical resources and expertise, a staff with deep experience in learning management systems, and a faculty that have successfully delivered undergraduate and graduate courses for a long time. They are all working hard to support our students’ learning. Here are some highlights of what may be different during spring 2020:

  • Summer course delivery is unknown at this time. We are preparing to deliver our curriculum on-line if conditions warrant.
  • Residence Halls are open. Students have been encouraged to move home, but those students who need to remain in our residence halls are welcome and will be supported through the end of the semester.
  • The library is open. The building has been closed to support social-distancing requirements, but the library faculty and staff are working and available to students and faculty through remote means.
  • Student Health and Counseling is open. The office is closed to patients, but nurses and staff are working to both respond to more typical student needs, and to help students and employees with concerns about COVID-19.
  • The Student Wellness Center is closed. This is a high-risk environment, and while it is an important part of campus wellness, the risks outweigh the benefits right now.
  • Academic offices are open. Employees are encouraged to work at home if that is appropriate to their positions, so many offices may not be staffed on a regular basis. Contact should be made through email or phone to meet with staff to help.
